ZIP Code Database

For ZIP Code databases, GreatData has two ZIP Code database products: Pro-ZIP Code and Pro-ZIP Code Deluxe.

The base products contain the ZIP Code, City, State Abbreviation and County. You purchase one of the ZIP Code base products and can also choose one or more ZIP Code add-on products. The actual file you get will have both the base product and any add-on products in the same record.

Pro-ZIP Code

This is our U.S. ZIP Code data which is usually used in marketing and has one record per ZIP Code with the primary city (as defined by the USPS) for that ZIP Code. There are about 42,000 records in this file. The price for this manually verified product is only $100 per year.

Pro-ZIP Code Deluxe

This is a unique product which we created back around 1994 and have maintained it by manual verification since that time—there is no other product like it! It can have multiple cities per ZIP Code (when ZIP Codes cross city limits) and is primarily used in Order Entry applications where you key in a ZIP Code and your program will automatically fill in the correct city and state.

We highly recommend using this in locators as well. It is also used in marketing where the correct city name is needed as well. There are over 57,000 clean (manually verified) records in this file. The price for this manually verified product is only $300 per year.

Why Pro-ZIPCode Deluxe is better:

Our Deluxe base product normally only has only one name per city. Competitors will claim to have over 70,000 records in some of their products, but it has thousands of duplicate city names, spelled differently and even bogus city names.

For example, we've looked up 45433 from the USPS web site and found the following records which will appear as seven records in competitive products:

Why do you need the Air Force base abbreviated six different ways? We have 'Dayton' and 'Wright Patterson AFB' in our data ... nice and clean!

Another example shows invalid city names which are in their database:

Why would you want the name of a grocery store for a city? Our data just shows 'Emerson' and 'Head of Grassy' which are the town names.

For instance, in 33331 the USPS will include 'SW RANCHES' and 'SOUTHWEST RANCHES,' plus it will have 'EVERGLADES BR' (which is not a city name). They have 8 records for that ZIP, but it only crosses over 3 cities. Once again, our product is clean because it's manually verified.

ZIP Code Add-On Products

• Latitude / Longitude: This is used to calculate the distance between 2 ZIP Codes in Dealer Locator / Store Locator applications (such as in Bullseye). Accurate coordinates are crucial to a good locator so we regularly verify this data against multiple sources to ensure accuracy. About 99% of our Pro-ZIP Code latitude / longitude points are unique! Note that sometimes there are multiple ZIP Codes in the same building, so their coordinates would be the same. The price for this continually updated add-on is $300 per year.
• Area Codes: These are the primary area codes for the ZIP Codes. Often, there may be more than one area code for a ZIP Code and if you need to see all of them, you will need our Multiple Area Codes per Zip product. The price for this manually verified add-on is only $100 per year.
• FIPS Codes: These are standard numbers assigned to the state, county and city/town belonging to that ZIP Code. It is used to match up our data with other data products (rather than trying to match by a city/county name that can be spelled various ways). The price for this add-on is only $75 per year.
• MSA Codes:These are Metropolitan Statistical Areas and are used by marketers to select all of the ZIP Codes in a metropolitan area such as the greater Miami area, etc. Note: MSA data only covers areas with cities over 50,000 people. If you need smaller towns, look at our CBSA product. The price for this is only $75 per year.
• Time Zones: If you need to do telemarketing, this will help you so you don't call a phone number at the wrong time. It also has a Daylight Savings Time flag. We believe that we have the most precise data available today, since we've done extensive research on these, especially in areas which are non-standard. The price for this manually verified add-on is only $100 per year.

Better Latitude / Longitude:

• Our latitude / longitude coordinates are better because we don't just take a physical center point of the ZIP Code as our competitors do. That's easier and requires no manual effort, but is not as accurate because often there are populated areas and unpopulated areas (such as parks, golf courses, lakes, business districts, etc.) within the same ZIP Code. The map below as a classic example. Where it says '10023' is the physical center of the ZIP, but the Eastern portion is Central Park and the physical center point is actually at the edge of the populated area. Where we put the star is the population based centroid (center point) which is what we use. This takes hours of manual effort, but our demanding clients appreciate it!
